Paraguay's National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) took in four homeless people between Monday night and early Tuesday at the temporary shelter located in the Costanera Sur area of Asunción. The action is part of Operation Jaho'i, which is activated when minimum temperatures fall below 10 °C.
According to José Duarte, one of the shelter managers, most admissions occur through phone reports, but the team also conducts random patrols in various parts of the capital. Those taken to the shelter receive food, showers, warm clothing, and, if necessary, medical assistance. The facility has capacity for 30 people, with 12 spots for men, 12 for women, and six for mothers with babies.
In addition to the four sheltered individuals, three people approached on the street chose to remain where they were and received mattresses and blankets. The SEN reported that it will continue monitoring weather conditions and expanding assistance as needed.
