The president of the Social Security Institute (IPS), Isaías Fretes, announced this Monday (18) an asset audit to determine the exact number of the agency's properties, their location, the amounts charged for each rent, and the identity of the tenants. Preliminary data indicate that for every 10 guaraní the IPS should receive from rents, only 2 enter the institute's coffers.
“I asked to know how many properties the IPS has, where they are, how much is paid for each rent, and who rents. Whether the price corresponds or not. There are more than 400 thousand hectares of IPS in the Chaco. The owners need to know what is happening,” said Fretes in a press conference.
The audit will be conducted by the Executive Branch, through Minister Alberto Cabrera, the government's general auditor. Cabrera reported that, in addition to the details mentioned by Fretes, a cost-benefit study of each property will be carried out, comparing maintenance expenses with the revenue generated.
“It is a large task, there are more than 800 properties. It is very delicate and must be done inter-institutionally, because we need to request information from the General Registry of Property, the Mayor's Office of Government, and the Military Geographic Institute to determine with sufficient evidence,” explained the minister.
The investigation will also cover the control of the administration of the stock of medicines and supplies. Cabrera stated that he wants to verify how they were delivered according to the bids and contracts, how they are being managed from the sanitary park and their distribution throughout the national territory.
The conclusion of the work is scheduled for the end of August. Fretes highlighted that, with the elimination of 817 items from the vademecum — supplies that continued to be purchased even without use — a large savings is already expected, not yet calculated.
