Criminal judge José Agustín Delmás stated that family violence remains the most frequent crime in Paraguay's judicial system, reflecting a persistent problem that remains among the main causes handled in the courts.
According to the magistrate, behind the cases of family violence come proceedings for aggravated theft and, subsequently, those related to alimony.
“Family violence, aggravated theft and alimony, in that order,” he detailed in an interview, referring to the crimes and causes that most enter the judicial system.
Delmás also indicated that the number of reports of family violence is constant and high. He highlighted that, on average, between five and six cases are registered per month in this area alone, while aggravated thefts also maintain similar numbers.
The judge warned that this picture shows not only the impact of insecurity and intrafamily conflicts, but also the social and economic difficulties that end up resulting in recurring legal proceedings.
