Two Detained for Car Break-In in Central Asunción

According to a report from El Nacional, two individuals were detained on May 15, 2026, after breaking into a parked car in downtown Asunción. The incident occurred at the intersection of Mariscal Estigarribia and Tacuary streets.

Police reported that the suspects, a man and a woman, smashed the vehicle's window to gain entry. The woman became trapped inside the car when the owner or bystanders discovered the break-in. The man attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly afterward.

Authorities identified the suspects as Arnaldo Andrés Benítez Gorki, 31, and Gloria Soledad González, 31. Both have multiple prior records for similar offenses. Officers recovered stolen items from the suspects, including clothing, a fire extinguisher, a hoppie (a type of bag or container), and several sharp objects believed to have been used in the theft.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about property crime in the capital, with police emphasizing the importance of public vigilance.
