Lawyer Jorge Rolón Luna Calls Paraguay’s Justice System ‘Incorrigible’ After Aldo Cantero Shortlist

Lawyer and former electoral judge Jorge Rolón Luna harshly criticized the Paraguayan justice system, calling it 'incorrigible' after Aldo Cantero was included in a shortlist for a criminal court judge position in Asunción. Rolón Luna, who has previously denounced criminal structures within the judiciary, pointed to Cantero’s career and a domestic violence complaint against him as reasons for concern.

Lawyer Jorge Rolón Luna, a former electoral judge who has repeatedly denounced criminal networks within Paraguay’s judiciary, has again attacked the system after prosecutor Aldo Cantero was placed on a shortlist for a criminal court judge post in Asunción. Writing on his X account, Rolón Luna said: “The system is incorrigible. On one hand, it annuls Rivas’s dismissal (after fiscal and judicial actions worthy of being forgotten for their slowness and softness). Immediately, it puts prosecutor Aldo Cantero on the shortlist, about whom no words or adjectives are needed.”

Rolón Luna added that Cantero’s “career speaks for itself, as does his private life, adorned with a domestic violence and abandonment complaint.” He questioned: “Neither you nor I would buy a used car from Cantero, not even drunk would we want to see him as a judge – something very close to what could be called a terrifying experience.”

The lawyer has previously argued that the justice system is controlled by a specific political sector. “Those who govern, manage the bureaucracy, the justice system, and have a majority in Congress are the Colorados,” he had stated. The remarks, reported by Ultima Hora, reflect ongoing tensions over judicial appointments in Paraguay.
