A young Paraguayan man died in the Ukraine war after being recruited under false promises of employment, according to his family, who warned of other similar cases in the country.

Paraguay’s Chamber of Deputies, in its session of May 19, 2026, buried the possibility of intervention in seven municipalities, including Lima, Emboscada, Tomás Romero Pereira, Yby Yaú, Ñemby, Ybyrarobaná, and Juan León Mallorquín. The decision comes less than three weeks before the internal party elections of June 7, shielding mayors seeking reelection who face allegations of corruption, phantom public works, and embezzlement.
