The Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) highlighted the need to accelerate the digitalization of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), a sector that accounts for 70% of formal employment in Paraguay. The warning came during the launch of the 4th Expo eCommerce 2026, an event to be held on May 21.
In an interview on the program Tribuna, on Paraguay TV, the National Director of Entrepreneurship at MIC, Romina Da Re, stated that despite the growth of e-commerce, there is still a significant digital gap among MSMEs. Data presented show that they move 24% of national commerce, but only 15% have their own virtual store.
“There is an immense opportunity, since eight out of ten Paraguayans make online purchases and more than 50% prefer local brands,” said Da Re.
Expo eCommerce 2026, organized by the Paraguayan Chamber of Electronic Commerce with support from the Vice Ministry of MSMEs of MIC, will offer training on digital sales, payment methods, artificial intelligence applied to marketing, and financial inclusion.
