Gianina García Troche Requests House Arrest to Be with Her Children

Gianina García Troche, partner of Sebastián Marset, asked prosecutor Deny Yoon Pak for the benefit of house arrest, citing the need to be close to her children. The request was made during her indictment hearing on May 12, and the prosecutor said he will consult Judge Rosarito Montanía.

Gianina García Troche, a Uruguayan and partner of alleged drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, requested the benefit of house arrest from prosecutor Deny Yoon Pak during her indictment hearing held on May 12. The information was confirmed by one of her lawyers, Luis Samaniego.

According to Samaniego, García Troche argued that she wants to be close to her children, and the prosecutor responded that he will analyze the request and consult Judge Rosarito Montanía. She is currently detained at the women's prison in Emboscada, after having been held at the Viñas Cué military prison.

García Troche is being investigated under Operation A Ultranza Paraguay, which investigates an alleged money laundering structure for drug trafficking led by Marset. The accusation indicates that she would have participated in the creation and management of companies used for the scheme. In her statement, she denied involvement and said she only learned of the companies during the process.

The request comes after Judge Francisco Acevedo granted house arrest with an electronic ankle bracelet to businesswoman Dalia López, who was detained in the same prison. López offered four properties as collateral, valued at amounts totaling more than US$1.6 million. She is known for having provided false documents to former soccer player Ronaldinho Gaúcho, who was detained in Paraguay in 2020.
