This Saturday, May 16, the city of Itauguá will hold a solidarity marathon and festival to support families and merchants affected by a devastating fire that swept through the Municipal Market on Sunday, May 10. The initiative, named “Itauguá de Pie: Todos por el Mercado,” aims to raise funds for more than 400 vendors who lost their stalls and merchandise, according to a report by 1000 Noticias.
The event is organized with the support of the Municipalidad de Itauguá and other local institutions, as noted by C9N. The day will begin at 7:00 a.m. in the market parking lot, where citizens can drop off donations and contributions until 5:00 p.m. Later, from 5:00 p.m. to midnight, a festival featuring national artists will take place at the Club Social Itaugüeño. Food vendors from the market will offer typical dishes and meals for attendees, 1000 Noticias added.
For those unable to attend in person, a bank account has been set up at Banco Continental under the name Fernando Arturo Acuña Ale, account number 4900601566605. Transfers can also be made via the alias associated with the email mercado@itaugua.com.py, 1000 Noticias reported.
Organizers are appealing to the public’s solidarity to help restore one of the city’s main supply centers. The campaign is part of a broader community effort to support the affected families and rebuild livelihoods.
