PLRA Denounces Flaws in Electronic Voting Machines and Plans Parallel Control for June 7 Internal Elections

Internal movements of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA) have warned of irregularities in the use of voting machines in the internal elections scheduled for June 7, including problems in contracting, lack of technical audit, and absence of oversight in the preparation of equipment. Senator Éver Villalba announced that the party will implement a parallel control system, with the participation of voters themselves and its own TREP.

Internal movements of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA) denounced this Tuesday (18) a series of irregularities in the electoral process of the simultaneous party primaries, scheduled for June 7. The criticisms focus on the vulnerability of the voting machines, the lack of guarantees in the technical audit, and the concentration of operational and technological control in the hands of the Superior Electoral Justice Tribunal (TSJE).

Senator Éver Villalba, in a press conference, pointed out that the loading and preparation of the ballot boxes and electoral bags were carried out without the presence of proxies or representatives of the participating movements. “The concentration of operational and technological control of the process in bodies and officials of the TSJE is concerning,” he said.

Given the scenario, the PLRA plans a “parallel control” that directly involves the voter. “We will ask the population to help us monitor. The voter himself will be part of this control. We will have our own TREP (Transmission of Preliminary Electoral Results),” Villalba declared.

The liberal leaders also demand the completion of the audit of the machines, which should have taken place in February. Furthermore, the movements had requested the Independent Electoral Tribunal (TEI) of the PLRA to open envelope 4 after the elections, but the party body did not respond. Villalba asked that proxies and polling station officials remain vigilant on election day, given the “lack of will” of the TEI and the Electoral Justice.
