Paraguay is advancing in digitalization: 85.4% of the population aged 10 or older used the internet in the past year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) released on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. The figure represents growth from the 81.6% recorded in 2024 and reflects the acceleration of connectivity in the country, driven mainly by the use of mobile phones and the expansion of mobile services.
The survey shows that women have slightly higher access than men: 86.8% versus 83.9%. Among young people aged 20 to 24, the percentage reaches 97.4%, followed by the 25 to 29 age group with 97.1%. Connectivity, however, varies by region: in urban areas, 88.2% of the population accesses the internet, while in rural areas the rate drops to 77.8%. Asunción leads with 90.9%, followed by the Central and Alto Paraná departments.
The digital advance is already transforming consumption habits, work, and communication. Commercial operations, payments, public and financial services are increasingly carried out via mobile devices, consolidating a digitalized economy. Sectors such as education, health, logistics, and entertainment also register accelerated growth in the use of online platforms.
Despite progress, the country faces challenges: the digital divide between urban and rural areas, the quality of service in certain regions, and the need for more technological infrastructure. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen digital skills and ensure equitable access to new technologies. World Telecommunication Day, promoted by the International Telecommunication Union, aims precisely to reduce these inequalities and promote universal access.
