On the occasion of World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, celebrated on May 17, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) released the results of the 2025 Continuous Permanent Household Survey (EPHC), revealing that 85.4% of the Paraguayan population aged 10 or older accessed the internet in the last year. The rate represents an increase from the 81.6% recorded in 2024.
The survey indicates that women lead usage: 86.8% of them accessed the network, compared to 83.9% of men. Among young people, the percentage is even higher: 97.4% in the 20 to 24 age group, followed by 97.1% among those aged 25 to 29 and 96% among those aged 30 to 34. The 15 to 19 age group registered 92.5%, while children aged 10 to 14 reached 55.9%.
Access via mobile phone remains the main means of connection. In urban areas, 88.2% of the population used the internet, compared to 77.8% in rural areas. In Asunción, the rate reached 90.9%. Among departments, Central (89.8%) and Alto Paraná (89.2%) stand out, followed by Itapúa (83.1%) and Caaguazú (79.9%). Caazapá (78.7%) and San Pedro (75.1%) had the lowest percentages.
The date was established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to promote equitable access to digital technologies and reduce the digital divide between countries and population sectors.
