An automobile fell into a huge hole with accumulated water in the city of Mariano Roque Alonso, in the metropolitan region of Asunción, on the morning of this Tuesday (19). The incident, the latest in a series of similar occurrences, sparked revolt among drivers and residents of the area, who denounce the lack of response from authorities and the permanent risk for those traveling through the location.
The asphalt gave way while the driver was traveling along the road, surprising him. The hole, of large dimensions and full of water, had already been the subject of previous complaints. Neighbors say the problem has persisted for weeks and that, despite requests for repair, no concrete measures have been taken so far.
“It’s a constant danger. Anyone can get into an accident here,” said a resident, who preferred not to be identified. The situation exposes the precariousness of road infrastructure in the region and the delay in maintenance of public roads, putting the safety of pedestrians and drivers at risk.
As of the close of this edition, the Mariano Roque Alonso city hall had not commented on the incident.
