President Santiago Peña visited the total restoration works of Avenida Avelino Martínez in San Lorenzo this Saturday (16), accompanied by the Minister of Public Works, Claudia Centurión, and the local mayor, Felipe Salomón. The road, which connects Ruta PY02 to Acceso Sur, has suffered for decades from flooding and degraded asphalt, posing a risk to drivers on rainy days.

Peña stated that the government seeks to provide a “real solution” to the problem, focusing on the drainage system that will channel water to the San Lorenzo stream. “We could have chosen a resurfacing, show a beautiful work, but there would be no real solution. These are the foundations that are not seen,” he declared. The president emphasized that the work will use rigid pavement (concrete), a 100% national product, with greater durability in areas of water accumulation.

Claudia Centurión explained that Avelino Martínez is 40 years old and has never received a deep hydraulic intervention. “No one dared to open the entire avenue and carry out the hydraulic solution,” she said. According to her, about 15,000 people travel daily through the stretch, which will also include improvements to adjacent streets. The works, started in early May, have a deadline of 20 months and will be executed by two companies that won the bidding, with entirely national labor.

Peña acknowledged that the works will cause inconvenience to residents and traffic in the coming months, but stated that there has been awareness work with the community. The intervention is considered by the government as a priority for the urban connectivity of the metropolitan region.
