Cartista Deputy Rodrigo Gamarra Touts Jazmín Narváez as Future Central Governor Candidate

In a social media post during Paraguay's independence celebrations, Deputy Rodrigo Gamarra (ANR, HC) suggested that fellow cartista Deputy Jazmín Narváez could be a candidate for governor of Central Department in 2028. The speculation comes despite internal party divisions and the fact that municipal elections have not yet taken place.

Even before municipal elections are held, some members of the Colorado Party's cartista faction are already looking ahead to 2028. Deputy Rodrigo Gamarra (ANR, HC), who represents Central Department, posted on X a photograph with party leader Horacio Cartes and Deputy Jazmín Narváez (ANR, HC), captioning it: “With my dear Leader, Horacio Cartes, and the next Governor of the Central Department, Jazmín Narváez! Celebrating the anniversary of our Independence.”

According to ABC Color, the post has drawn attention because, although both Gamarra and Narváez are cartistas and represent Central, they belong to different internal factions. Gamarra is aligned with Senator Derlis Maidana (ANR, HC), while Narváez supports Senator Derlis Osorio (ANR, HC). The outlet notes that internal party primaries are still far from being defined.

Narváez's path to a potential gubernatorial candidacy faces a significant challenge: she must first win the internal party primary against the Arévalo-González clan in Lambaré. ABC Color reports that Narváez won an earlier battle against former deputy Orlando Arévalo, who was forced to resign after the “Se Pudre la Justicia” scandal, in which he was allegedly involved in influencing judges and prosecutors through the Jurado de Enjuiciamiento de Magistrados (JEM). After losing cartista support, Arévalo joined the Fuerza Republicana movement of Hugo “Toro” Velázquez and is now backing his wife, councilor Carolina González, in the Lambaré mayoral race against Narváez's candidate, current mayor Rosa Agustín “Guido” González (ANR, HC).
