In the midst of municipal campaigning, Ñemby councilman Marcelo Martínez has renewed his pledge to advance social policies as part of his reelection bid for the Junta Municipal. His platform centers on supporting single mothers and women entrepreneurs.
“We will be promoting support for single mothers and also for those who are entrepreneurs,” Martínez said in a campaign video, according to El Nacional. He also promised training, job opportunities, and entrepreneurship promotion.
Martínez is running on the Lista 6 ticket, alongside Julio Vallejos’s campaign for mayor of Ñemby.
However, the message quickly drew scrutiny after reports emerged that Martínez’s own children have not received child support for more than two months, El Nacional reported. The outlet noted that critics point to an apparent contradiction between his promises to help mothers “who want to get ahead” and his personal situation, putting the credibility of his political discourse into question.
El Nacional’s report is based on a single source and has not been independently corroborated. The child support allegations remain unverified.
