Asunción's microcenter was strewn with piles of food and beverage containers after the May 14 Independence Day celebrations, according to a report by ABC Color. The worst accumulation was in the Plaza de Armas, in front of the Centro Cultural de la República El Cabildo, where the main commemorative event took place.

Waste—including plastics, cans, cardboard, and glass bottles—was scattered across sidewalks, walkways, and green areas. The report noted a scarcity of trash bins in the area, contributing to the litter.

Starting at 6 a.m. on May 15, about 50 workers from the Municipalidad de Asunción's Área Verde and Servicios Urbanos departments began collecting the debris. The municipality is expected to release the total weight of the collected waste later in the day.
