Prosecutor's Office Seeks 6-Year Prison Sentence for Ramón González Daher for Perjury

Prosecutor Andrea Vera requested on Monday (18) the conviction of former sports executive Ramón González Daher to 6 years in prison for perjury during the closing arguments of the trial. González Daher, who is already serving a 15-year sentence for aggravated usury, money laundering, and false accusation, is accused of lying about the reasons for his departure from the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) in testimony given in 2021.

The Paraguayan Prosecutor's Office requested on Monday (18) the conviction of Ramón González Daher to 6 years in prison for perjury. Prosecutor Andrea Vera presented the closing arguments in the trial investigating whether the former executive lied about the reasons for his resignation from the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) during testimony given in 2021.

According to the prosecution, González Daher testified as a witness in a lawsuit filed by the president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), Alejandro Domínguez, against former executive José Medina Sagalés. On that occasion, he stated that he had been reported to Conmebol and that the case had been forwarded to the International Federation of Football (FIFA), which allegedly led him to resign from the position of vice president of the APF to avoid the continuation of the litigation.

However, Prosecutor Vera argued that González Daher's version is false. Documents sent by the APF and Conmebol to the Prosecutor's Office indicate that there was no formal complaint against him at the international entity. According to these records, the former executive's departure did not result from a voluntary resignation, but rather from a suitability and integrity review requested by the APF itself.

The trial will resume next Monday (25), when González Daher's defense will present its closing arguments. The Sentencing Tribunal is presided over by Judge Fabián Weisensee and includes Judges Laura Ocampo and Cândida Fleitas.

This is the fifth conviction González Daher may face. He is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence at the Esperanza Industrial Penitentiary Unit for aggravated usury, money laundering, and false accusation. In 2023, he was sentenced to 7 years for false accusation and extortion, a sentence confirmed by the Supreme Court in August 2025. In November 2024, he received 6 years for reducing 471 stolen checks from a Guarantees office, a ruling ratified in May 2025. The fourth conviction, of 3 years, was for extortion against businessman Alberto Antebi, also related to the stolen checks.
