The opening of the Taiwanese market for Paraguayan poultry meat represents a new boost for the national industry, which sees in the measure a strategic opportunity to strengthen exports and expand its presence in Asia. However, the sector warns that the main challenge will be to achieve more competitive trade conditions, especially through tariff elimination.
Blanca Ceuppens, vice president of the Paraguayan Poultry Association (AVIPAR), highlighted that the authorization constitutes an important sanitary recognition for the country, as Paraguay manages to position in Taiwan its three main types of export meat: beef, pork, and now poultry.
“Taiwan was one of the most awaited markets by the Paraguayan poultry sector. As happened with beef and pork, we want to sit down to negotiate and achieve tariff-free exports. Currently, this situation hinders our cost competitiveness, but we understand that the pork and beef sectors went through the same situation,” said Ceuppens.
The leader explained that the initial goal is to exceed five containers monthly destined exclusively for the Taiwanese market. In this context, she recalled that Paraguayan poultry exports reached approximately US$ 7.1 million in 2025.
Ceuppens added that both the government and the private sector are working on plans to significantly increase national production. The projection is to triple production capacity in the medium term, aiming to meet growing international demand without compromising domestic supply.
Regarding the preferences of the Asian market, she indicated that Taiwan presents a demand focused on specific cuts and value-added products. Among the items with the best sales prospects, she mentioned thighs, wings, and processed foods derived from chicken meat.
The sector considers that this new trade access could become a key platform to expand Paraguayan presence in other Asian markets, provided favorable competitiveness conditions are achieved for national exporters.
