Intense Cold: SEN Reopens Shelter in Tacumbú and Welcomes Four People on the First Night of Operation Jaho'i 2026

The National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) reactivated the temporary shelter in the Tacumbú neighborhood of Asunción as part of Operation Jaho'i 2026. On the first night, four homeless men were taken in, receiving shelter, food, and basic care. SEN asks the public to report cases of vulnerability by calling 911 or (0986) 111 001.

The National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) re-enabled, on the night of Monday (18), the temporary shelter of Operation Jaho'i 2026, located in the Tacumbú neighborhood, next to the access to Costanera Sur, in Asunción. The measure is activated when the temperature drops to 10 °C or less, with the aim of protecting homeless people and those in social vulnerability.

On the first night of operation, four men spent the night at the location and received breakfast on the morning of Tuesday (19). The shelter has separate spaces for men, women, and women with children, as well as teams that conduct nightly rounds to offer voluntary transportation, blankets, and mattresses also to those who prefer not to go to the shelter.

SEN reported that it works in coordination with other state institutions to ensure comprehensive assistance and a rapid response to the intense cold. The public can collaborate by calling the 911 system or the number (0986) 111 001 to report people in need of shelter.
