Dalia López Granted House Arrest in Ronaldinho Passport Fraud Case

Paraguayan businesswoman Dalia López, accused of involvement in the fake passport scheme that led to Ronaldinho's 2020 arrest, has been granted house arrest by Judge Francisco Acevedo. She will wear an electronic ankle monitor and posted a $1.67 million property bond.

Dalia López, the Paraguayan businesswoman charged in the fraudulent passport case that ensnared former Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho and his brother, was granted house arrest on Wednesday by Judge Francisco Acevedo, according to El Nacional.

López will leave prison and serve her sentence at home under constant electronic monitoring via an ankle bracelet. As part of the conditions, she posted a property bond valued at approximately USD 1.67 million, which the court accepted to modify her pretrial detention.

López is accused of being part of a scheme that provided fake Paraguayan documents to Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto de Assis Moreira when they entered the country in March 2020. The case drew international attention after both were detained and imprisoned due to irregularities in the passports they used.

She had been a fugitive for a long period before surrendering to Paraguayan authorities. The charges include indirect production of false public documents and criminal association, among other offenses being investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
