A 38-year-old lawyer has been sent to oral and public trial by the Criminal Guarantees Court No. 11, accused of installing a GPS device on his ex-wife's vehicle and hidden cameras at her home. The ex-wife is also a fiscal agent.
Prosecutor Irma Llano, in charge of the case, classified the conduct as alarming and a sign of risk that, in many cases, can lead to episodes of extreme violence, including femicides. “These are dangerous facts that can lead to more serious ones, as we have had cases of femicide. When a person acts this way, these are alarming issues and it is necessary to take the necessary precautions, because in many cases femicide has occurred when the pertinent precautions were not taken,” Llano stated to 1020 AM.
The lawyer has been indicted for unauthorized access to computer systems, injury to the right to communication and image, as well as pornography involving children and adolescents. Llano expressed concern about the low expected penalty for injury to the right to communication and image, which is up to two years in prison, considering the prolonged consequences for victims. Although the investigated facts initially fall within the digital realm, the prosecutor did not rule out that the case may also be considered a form of violence against women.
