Rodrigo Calonga, an actor and audiovisual professional from Pedro Juan Caballero, was honored by the Consulate General of Paraguay in Rio de Janeiro on May 14, during celebrations for Paraguay's Independence Day. The recognition, in the category of Arts, Culture and Paraguayan Representation, highlights his career and his role in spreading Paraguayan culture internationally.
Calonga, currently based in Rio de Janeiro, has built a career with roles in global productions for platforms such as Netflix, Disney and Rede Globo, as well as international advertising campaigns. The consulate's event brought together the Paraguayan community in Brazil to celebrate national identity and history.
Upon receiving the distinction, Calonga addressed young people in his hometown: “I come from Pedro Juan Caballero and it deeply moves me that this news can reach my city. I hope my story can inspire other young people to believe that dreams can cross borders. It doesn't matter where we come from; talent, effort and perseverance can take us far.”
He also reflected on representing Paraguay in his work: “Every time I step onto a stage or a set, I feel that I don't enter alone as Rodrigo; with me comes a Paraguayan artist, our culture, our history and our roots.” Calonga dedicated the award to all Paraguayan artists who keep the national culture alive, both at home and abroad, and reaffirmed his commitment to carrying the name of Paraguay—and especially Pedro Juan Caballero—to the international stage.
