Drunk Young Man Arrested After Running Over and Killing Security Guard in Presidente Franco

Jorge Alexandro Berdaberry Rotela, 22, was detained in Ciudad del Este for attempted theft and linked to a fatal accident on Route PY07 in Presidente Franco that killed Ysidro Paiva Santander, 64. Alcohol test was positive.

Agents of the First Police Station of Ciudad del Este arrested in the early hours of Sunday Jorge Alexandro Berdaberry Rotela, 22, a resident of Itakyry, suspected of attempting to steal a vehicle inside a residence and of being involved in the traffic accident that killed security guard Ysidro Paiva Santander, 64, on Route PY07 in Presidente Franco.

According to the police report, the accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday. After the impact, the driver abandoned the vehicle on Avenida Bernardino Caballero, in front of the Government House, and fled. Hours later, Berdaberry Rotela was detained by residents of a house on Avenida Dr. Luis María Argaña and 11 de Setiembre, in the Juan E. O’Leary neighborhood, where he was trying to steal a Toyota Premio (license plate CDS-651) belonging to British citizen Akbar Bandali Suleman. The suspect broke the front right window of the car but was stopped by the owners.

The police officers who responded to the incident verified that the detainee was linked to the fatal accident recorded hours earlier under the jurisdiction of the Second Sub-Police Station of the Fátima neighborhood in Presidente Franco. The case was reported to prosecutors Cinthia Leiva and Viviana Sánchez, who ordered the alcohol test.

The test, conducted at the Traffic Patrol base, showed 0.511 mg/L of alcohol in the blood, a positive result. Berdaberry Rotela was placed at the disposal of the Second Sub-Police Station of the Fátima neighborhood, where investigations continue.
