Paraguay's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) issued an agrometeorological alert for the arrival of a cold air mass, with forecasts of temperatures below 3°C and frost risk, especially in the central and southern parts of the Eastern Region. The agency recommends urgent measures to protect crops and livestock.

The phenomenon occurs when the thermometer reaches 3°C or less, measured two meters above the ground. The most vulnerable areas are the central and southern departments of the Eastern Region, particularly in low-lying terrain where cold air accumulates.

To mitigate damage, the ministry advises using straw covers on extensive crops such as wheat, oats, and canola, as well as selecting resistant seeds. For second-crop corn and sorghum, it recommends maintaining soil moisture and avoiding water stress. In horticulture, the guidance is to install thermal blankets, greenhouses, or plastic tunnels, and activate sprinkler irrigation during the night. For livestock, instructions include moving animals to covered shelters, ensuring clean water, and providing adequate feed.

MAG says it will continue providing accurate climate data to help producers face the contingency and safeguard the national harvest.
