Authorities from Paraguay's state electricity utility, the National Electricity Administration (ANDE), discovered an illegal electricity connection at a property in the San Rafael neighborhood of Ciudad del Este, Alto Paraná. The power was being used irregularly to run cryptocurrency mining equipment.
During the operation, nine mining machines were seized and placed in the custody of the Public Prosecutor's Office for investigation. ANDE filed the complaint under case number 11.419/2026, which will be handled by prosecutor Alcides Giménez from Penal Unit No. 9 to determine responsibility.
The case is another example of the growing concern over illegal crypto-mining in Paraguay, which diverts electrical energy and causes losses to the system.
