In a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Argentine Embassy in Asunción, the navies of Paraguay and Argentina reaffirmed their historic ties of friendship and cooperation, on the occasion of the 212th anniversary of the Battle of Montevideo, a date established as Argentine Navy Day.
The event was presided over by the Argentine ambassador to Paraguay, Guillermo Emilio Nielsen, and was attended by the commander of the Paraguayan Navy, Vice Admiral Christian José Rotela Valdez, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Vice Admiral Albino Bogarín Flor. Also participating were the Defense, Military, Naval and Aeronautical Attaché of Argentina in Paraguay, Commodore Mayor Gustavo Aníbal Enríquez, and the head of the Argentine Naval Mission in Paraguay, Captain Leandro Nonide.
Representing the National Defense Council (Codena), the permanent secretary minister, retired Rear Admiral Cibar Benítez Cáceres, was present, along with commanders and directors of major units of the Paraguayan Navy.
During the ceremony, messages of “friendship, cooperation and camaraderie” between the two countries were reiterated, in a regional context where bilateral relations in defense and security maintain permanent coordination channels. As part of the commemoration, a religious service was held in honor of the historic naval battle, considered a milestone for the Argentine Navy.
The ceremony was accompanied by the Military Band of the Paraguayan Navy and a Chamber Orchestra, which lent solemnity to the protocol act. The organizers highlighted that the occasion served to strengthen the bonds of integration between the two naval forces.
