Three Suspects Detained After Gas Station Robberies in Limpio; Retired Military Among Those Arrested

Three men were detained by police after robbing two gas stations in Limpio on Sunday night. Among those arrested is a retired non-commissioned officer of the Armed Forces and a suspect known as 'Freddy Mercury'.

Agents of the 9th Central Police Station arrested three men suspected of robbing two gas stations in Limpio on Sunday night. The group allegedly attacked a Petrochaco station and another from the Shell network, taking about G. 668,000 and G. 250,000, respectively.

According to Commissioner José Acosta, the suspects used a white Toyota Spacio. Two of them got out of the vehicle and intimidated the attendants with a firearm, demanding the cash from the register. During one of the robberies, a warning shot was fired.

Among those detained is José Luis Cubilla, 63, a retired principal non-commissioned officer of the Armed Forces. He was driving the car used in the crimes and carried a credential as a supervisor of a private security company. Police seized a pistol of Israeli origin with 28 intact cartridges, which Cubilla claimed was his.

Another arrested is Jorge Daniel Samudio, 25, known as 'Freddy Mercury'. He had a prior record for robbery and theft in the region. The third suspect is Marcelo Fabián Martínez Espinoza, 20.

The three were located in a house in the San Marcos neighborhood, where they allegedly tried to hide after the robberies. Police acted after analyzing security camera footage and initiating a tracking. Prosecutor Víctor Villaverde ordered the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of the vehicle and weapon. Criminalistics experts were also at the scene to collect evidence, including a spent cartridge found at one of the stations.
