Three hooded men broke into a residence in the Santa Isabel neighborhood of Katueté, Canindeyú department, on the night of Monday (18), and held two women hostage for about two hours. The victims were identified as Angélica Karina Zimmer Rodríguez, 34, and Paola Alvez Spak, 26.
According to the police report, the women had closed a grocery store in the Primavera neighborhood around 11:40 p.m. and were arriving home in a white Volkswagen Saveiro pickup truck when they were surprised by the criminals in the yard. Under threats, they were forced into the residence, where the assailants demanded cash and access to bank accounts.
The criminals took approximately 28 million guaranis in cash, a 9mm Tisas Zigana pistol, and the Saveiro pickup truck (license plate BNS-159). Additionally, using one of the victims' internet banking, they made transfers worth about 29.4 million guaranis to different bank accounts.
The victims stated that the men spoke with a Paraguayan accent and were hooded, wearing gloves and carrying a long weapon, possibly a shotgun.
After the crime, the assailants fled in the pickup truck. The police, through investigations, located the vehicle abandoned in a cornfield in the city. Also detained was Antonio Varela Giret, 47, owner of one of the accounts that received part of the transferred money, in the amount of 10 million guaranis.
