The city of Atyrá, in the Cordillera department, invites visitors to discover a destination where history, faith, and environmental awareness come together. One of its main attractions is the historic Church of San Francisco de Asís, a temple that holds part of the community's religious and cultural memory and has become an important symbol for its inhabitants.
Beyond its historical heritage, Atyrá maintains the prestige of being recognized as the cleanest city in Paraguay. This distinction is the result of the community's constant commitment to environmental care, organization, and a strong sense of belonging, values that are passed down through generations.
The municipal mayor, Juan Ramón Martínez of the National Republican Association (ANR), highlighted the legacy of former mayor Feliciano Martínez, whom he credits with the initial push for this culture of cleanliness and order. "The legacy of Feliciano Martínez remains present because he managed to instill in the population a sense of belonging and the importance of taking care of the place where we live," stated the municipal leader.
For tourists, another point of interest is the Indio José Pedestrian Walkway, where a permanent exhibition of local crafts can be found. The area is notable for its leatherwork, including lined drinking vessels, guampas, bags, belts, and footwear, showcasing the talent of the region's artisans, known as the leather capital.
