Atyrá, in the Cordillera department, has historical and cultural attractions, including the Church of San Francisco de Asís and the Indio José pedestrian walkway. The church holds part of the community’s religious and cultural memory and has become an important symbol for its inhabitants.
ABC Color’s feature describes Atyrá as known for its cleanliness and says residents seek to preserve that reputation through care for the environment and community organization.
The municipal mayor, Juan Ramón Martínez of the National Republican Association (ANR), highlighted the legacy of former mayor Feliciano Martínez, whom he credits with the initial push for this culture of cleanliness and order. “The legacy of Feliciano Martínez remains present because he managed to instill in the population a sense of belonging and the importance of taking care of the place where we live,” stated the municipal leader.
The Indio José pedestrian walkway is another point of interest, with a permanent exhibition of local crafts. Its leatherwork includes leather-covered thermoses, traditional drinking vessels (guampas), bags, belts, and footwear made by Atyrá artisans.
