Berta Rojas received three nominations for the 2026 Latin Grammy Awards for the project La huella de las cuerdas. The Paraguayan guitarist will compete in the categories of Best Instrumental Album, Best Contemporary Classical Work or Composition, and Best Packaging Design.
The ceremony for the 27th edition is scheduled for November 12, 2026, at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. With the new nominations, Rojas reaches her fifth career nomination.
“We are happy and grateful to the members of the Latin Recording Academy for their vote of confidence in our work. La huella de las cuerdas celebrates the unity of diversity, the voices of our Latin America through its strings, which have always given voice to its sorrows and joys,” the artist said.
The project took more than two years of research and production. Rojas traveled about 13,000 kilometers through 10 Latin American countries and recorded with 17 artists to highlight the variety of string instruments across the continent. The production was led by Sebastián Henríquez and Popi Spatocco.
Broader than a conventional album, the work brings together music, videos, documentary accounts, photographs, and musicological texts. The edition also includes a 180-gram vinyl record and a book with 3D augmented reality, creating an experience that allows audiences to learn about the origin, timbre, and construction of the instruments featured.
In the Best Instrumental Album category, the production competes with a repertoire made up predominantly of musical instruments. The composition nomination recognizes Tríptico sudamericano, a work by Élodie Bouny that combines Rojas’s guitar with Federico Tarazona’s charango, Jorge Glem’s Venezuelan cuatro, Pedro Franco’s mandolin, and a chamber orchestra.
The third nomination recognizes the art-book format conceived by Paraguayan designer Celeste Prieto, with texts by Santiago Giordano. The project brings together the vinyl record and augmented-reality features; according to the artist’s team, this is the first time a Paraguayan designer has appeared in this Latin Grammy category.
Rojas won two statuettes in 2022 with Legado, which was honored as Best Classical Music Album and Best Contemporary Classical Work for Anido’s Portrait, by Sergio Assad. Since 2023, she has served on the Latin Grammy board of directors and as an associate professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she was the first Latina guitarist to join the guitar department.
