Fire hits two commercial halls at Limpio Market; firefighters control flames with no injuries

A fire destroyed two adjoining halls at the Municipal Market of Limpio on Sunday (17), with no injuries. Six volunteer fire companies controlled the flames, which consumed clothing and footwear. The lack of hydrants forced the use of water tanker trucks. Initial suspicion points to a short circuit.

A fire hit two commercial halls at the Municipal Market of Limpio on Sunday afternoon (17), mobilizing six companies of the Volunteer Fire Corps of Paraguay (CBVP). The fire was contained before spreading to neighboring shops, and there were no injuries.

Second Captain of the CBVP, Ray Mendoza, reported that the halls, approximately 3 by 6 meters each, sold highly flammable products such as clothing and footwear. “Luckily, we managed to control it in time. If the fire had spread to the adjacent halls, the story would be different,” he said.

The main challenge was the lack of accessible hydrants in the market area, which forced firefighters to use water tanker trucks to ensure a continuous water supply. The strategy allowed them to extinguish the flames without them reaching other establishments.

Material losses were considerable, with merchandise completely consumed. The initial suspicion points to a short circuit in the electrical installations, but the cause will be confirmed by technical investigation.

The incident occurred at the corner of Fulgencio Yegros Street and San José Avenue, in the market center. The rapid response of the firefighters prevented a greater tragedy, recalling previous fires in markets in the region, such as the one in Itauguá, which was 95% consumed.
