The San Lorenzo City Hall finds itself in the midst of a controversy with users of the municipality's internal public transport, after transport companies increased ticket prices to G. 3,500 without authorization from the City Council. In a statement released on social media, the municipal administration reaffirms that Municipal Ordinance No. 05/22, which sets the fare at G. 2,800, remains in effect.
However, several passengers contest this information, claiming that the lines are already charging the higher amount. “Line 2 charges G. 3,500 and they are still junk,” wrote user Mirian Marisel Prieto Barboza. Meanwhile, Concepción Espínola stated: “Line 6 charges G. 3,500 and is all junk, it belongs to councilman Pedro Martínez, and Line 5 charges G. 3,000.”
According to councilwoman Luz Bella González, the internal transport lines had filed, on April 12, a request for a tripartite meeting to discuss the impact of rising fuel prices on the fare. “Unfortunately, this document never left the secretariat until last week, practically a month after it was submitted,” the councilwoman declared. She added that, since the matter was not addressed, the transporters ended up implementing the increase on their own, without awaiting the Council's deliberation.
“We understand that there was an increase in fuel and that they would need this adjustment to make a profit, like any worker, but they had to wait for it to go through the Council,” González pondered, criticizing the breakdown of the institutional chain.
While users complain about the irregular charges, the San Lorenzo City Hall states that it is carrying out inspections to ensure compliance with Municipal Ordinance No. 05/22, which maintains the fare at G. 2,800.
