A 20-year-old youth was detained by agents of the 3rd Police Station of Encarnación after being caught with a significant amount of marijuana during a preventive patrol on Sunday afternoon (17). The approach occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of General Artigas and Curupayty streets, in the city center.
The suspect, identified as Alfredo Dionisio Benítez, a resident of the San Antonio Ypekuru area in Encarnación, had no criminal record, according to the police report. During the search, officers found in his fuchsia backpack a black plastic bag containing a herbaceous substance with characteristics of marijuana.
Immediately, prosecutor Enrique Forneron of the Specialized Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking and the team from the Anti-Narcotics Department of the National Police were called. After a field test, the substance was confirmed as marijuana, totaling 761 grams.
Benítez remains detained at the police station at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, and all seized evidence is in the custody of the competent authorities.
