The Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CODENI) of Lambaré, through its director Graciela Figueredo, provided details about the institutional intervention that preceded the tragic filicide case in the city. Figueredo stated that the child was removed from the mother due to severe psychiatric crises and suicidal ideation, being placed under the care of relatives.
CODENI's intervention was not motivated by a sexual abuse complaint, but rather by a violent episode that occurred on December 10, 2024, two days after the complaint, which put the child's life at risk. According to Figueredo, the mother climbed onto the roof of her home, threatening to jump with the child, and later tried to throw herself in front of a bus. The 4th Police Station, the Prosecutor's Office, and the Public Defender's Office were called.
During the procedure at the police station, the woman accused a police officer of having abused her son, but the child denied the mother at that moment. Then, the woman suffered a new episode and tried to self-harm. Figueredo negotiated with the mother to obtain information about her family and ensured that the child would not remain in her care.
As a result of the intervention, CODENI arranged for the woman to be admitted to the Psychiatric Hospital, where she was diagnosed with psychosis and remained under the care of her brother. The child was formally handed over to the uncles through a provisional guardianship. Figueredo emphasized that she warned the uncles about the situation and they signed documents assuming responsibility for the minor. The case was reported to defender Lorena López.
The CODENI director clarified that, once the case is judicialized, the municipal institution loses autonomy to intervene unless the court or the public defender requests monitoring. She also pointed out a failure in controlling the change of residence of the minor, who should have been living in Ñemby with his guardians. Figueredo lamented the tragedy, expressing deep sadness and stating that the extended family failed in their duty of protection by allowing the minor to return to Lambaré with the mother.
