The National Competition Commission (Conacom) announced the opening of the fifth edition of the “Premio Nacional de Competencia” contest, aimed at encouraging academic research and creativity on the benefits of free competition in markets. Individuals over 18 with a Paraguayan identity card may participate, either individually or in groups.
Applications are open until July 23, 2026, exclusively through the institution's official website. The contest offers two categories: academic essays, which must analyze regulatory barriers in national norms and propose improvements to strengthen markets; and short videos, aimed at content creators interested in spreading the culture of competition and its impacts on economic well-being.
Thanks to partnerships with international entities, the contest will award cash prizes. In the essay category, first place will receive 1,000 Swiss francs, offered by the Swiss Association for Competition Law and Compliance/Agon Partners; second place will receive US$500 from the Ecuadorian Institute of Competition Law. In the video category, first place will receive US$1,000 and second place US$500, both funded by the Competition Law Center at George Washington University in the United States, through the Instituto Desenvolvimento.
The president of Conacom's board, Eduardo de Barros, highlighted the importance of the award as a bridge between citizens and the institution. “This contest has become a fundamental link between citizens and the institution. By integrating academic research and audiovisual creativity, we not only fulfill our mission of promoting competition but also open the door to debate on issues that impact economic well-being,” he said.
