A new episode of violence was recorded at the Social Rehabilitation Center (CERESO) in Cambyretá, where a fight between inmates resulted in a prisoner being injured with a sharp weapon. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the deferred wing of the penitentiary unit.
The victim, Joel Jonás Martínez, 21, is serving a sentence for violation of Law 1888/2002 and its amendments (Law 1340). He suffered injuries to the upper part of his right thigh, as well as wounds to the lumbar region and gluteus.
The alleged perpetrator of the attack is Javier García Valiente, 33, also an inmate at CERESO, where he is serving a sentence for the murder of a young woman in Encarnación. According to the police report, officers from the 115th Arroyo Porã Police Station went to the prison after receiving a phone call from the facility. At the scene, prison staff reported that the two inmates had a fight inside a cell in the Workshop 2 wing.
After the incident, the injured man was taken to the Itapúa General Hospital, accompanied by prison officers, where he received care from physician Fernando Joevel. After being discharged, the inmate was again sent back to the prison.
The case was reported to prosecutor Giovanna Vera, while investigations continue to fully clarify what happened inside the prison unit.
