The Public Prosecutor's Office, represented by prosecutor Katia Uemura, obtained the conviction of Félix Leonor Quiñónez Herrera to 11 years in prison for attempted homicide. The sentence was handed down unanimously by the Sentencing Court composed of judges Abel Molinas, Mario Peralta, and Marcelina Quintana, after analyzing the documentary and testimonial evidence presented by the prosecution.
The crime occurred in May 2022, near the Batallón de Frontera in Pedro Juan Caballero. On that occasion, the victim, who was inside his vehicle, was targeted by multiple gunshots. Despite the severity of the attack, the driver managed to perform an evasive maneuver and, during the escape, ran over one of the attackers, later identified as Quiñónez Herrera. The impact caused multiple bone fractures, requiring his urgent transfer to the Regional Hospital of Pedro Juan Caballero.
In the initial investigations, relatives of the convicted man tried to divert the inquiry, claiming that the injuries resulted from a supposed motorcycle accident. However, the technical investigations and cross-referencing of data conducted by the Prosecutor's Office dismantled the alibi, proving Quiñónez Herrera's direct participation in the attack, along with an accomplice who remains at large.
