Paraguay's Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC) warned the population about the increase in digital scams circulating in everyday internet environments, such as social networks, messaging apps, online shopping, and virtual services.
According to the ministry, one of the most common tactics is phishing, in which criminals impersonate banks, companies, or government agencies to obtain personal data, passwords, or financial information from victims. These scams usually arrive via deceptive messages, fake links, tempting offers, or supposed prizes, creating a sense of urgency or trust so that the user provides information without verifying authenticity.
MITIC also highlighted digital identity theft, in which fraudsters create fake profiles or imitate official accounts to ask for money or sensitive data, pretending to be relatives, friends, or trusted institutions.
Faced with this scenario, the ministry advises: do not share personal data, passwords, or verification codes; avoid clicking on suspicious links or responding to unverified requests; be wary of messages with overly attractive offers or urgent requests; always confirm information through official channels; and report any attempted fraud to the competent authorities.
The ministry stressed that prevention and digital education are essential tools to reduce risks in the virtual environment and protect users' information.
