Paraguay's Ministry of Public Health, through the General Directorate of Health Surveillance, reported that the country records an average of 348 weekly notifications of suspected dengue cases. In the last three weeks, 57 positive cases were confirmed, with the DENV-1 serotype identified.
The regions with the highest number of confirmations are the Central Department (28 cases) and Asunción (17 cases). Cases were also recorded in Presidente Hayes (5), Concepción (3), Itapúa (2), Amambay (1), and Caazapá (1). In the cumulative total for the year, Paraguay has 230 confirmed dengue cases.
Currently, five patients are hospitalized due to the disease: one in Asunción and four in the Central Department, in the districts of Capiatá, Villeta, San Lorenzo, and Limpio. In Limpio, the outbreak that affected the municipality shows stable notifications, but positive cases are on the rise, with 11 confirmations in recent weeks.
Despite the colder temperatures, which reduce mosquito circulation, the ministry warns that vigilance should not be lowered, especially with constant rains. Prevention of breeding sites is essential to contain the spread of dengue, chikungunya, and other arboviruses.
Regarding chikungunya, two cases were confirmed in the last three weeks, both in the district of Pedro Juan Caballero (Amambay). In total, the country has 15 confirmed cases of the disease, three of them imported from Bolivia.
The Ministry of Health recommends the use of repellent, mosquito nets on beds, cribs, and strollers, as well as metal screens on doors and windows. In case of symptoms such as fever, body aches, or headache, the guidance is to seek medical attention and avoid self-medication. For those traveling to areas with chikungunya circulation, the recommendation is to wear clothing that protects against bites and to continue using repellent and mosquito nets.
