Fifth suspect arrested for murder of German woman in Paso Yobái

The National Police of Paraguay arrested Daniel Pereira Medina, 31, as the fifth suspect in the homicide of German citizen Olga Brodkorb, which occurred on April 26, 2026, in the Planchada community, Paso Yobái, Guairá department. The arrest was carried out this Monday (18) by agents of the Guairá Regional Crime Investigation Department, under the order of prosecutor Rocío Raquel Rivas. With this capture, the number of detainees in the case rises to five, including Juan Alberto Rodas García, Eleno Fonseca, Venancio Trinidad González, and Darío Aguilar Saucedo. The investigation indicates that the group, described as amateur criminals, allegedly planned a robbery at the victim's residence, but the plan went wrong when Brodkorb unexpectedly returned, resulting in a fatal confrontation. The victim was killed with a gunshot to the head. After the crime, the suspects fled with the victim's car, a white 2023 Chevrolet Onix Joy, which was found incinerated on a rural road near Arroyo Morotí. During previous searches, police seized more than 17 million guaranis in cash, a .22 caliber rifle, cell phones, motorcycles, and clothing. Authorities do not rule out further arrests.

The arrest was carried out by agents of the Guairá Regional Crime Investigation Department, under the order of prosecutor Rocío Raquel Rivas, who leads the investigation for intentional homicide and aggravated robbery.

After the capture, Pereira Medina underwent a medical examination at the Villarrica Regional Hospital and was sent to the 5th Ybaroty Police Station, where he remains at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

With this arrest, the number of detainees in the case rises to five. Previously, during simultaneous operations in the departments of Guairá and Caaguazú, Juan Alberto Rodas García (20), Eleno Fonseca (27), Venancio Trinidad González (28), and Darío Aguilar Saucedo (36) were arrested.

According to the police hypothesis, the group, described as amateur criminals, allegedly gathered at a court to plan a robbery against the foreigner. The idea was to invade the residence during a supposed absence of the victim, but the plan went wrong when Brodkorb unexpectedly returned. Images from internal security cameras indicate that she surprised one of the invaders, resulting in a fatal confrontation. The victim was killed with a gunshot to the head.

After the crime, the suspects fled with the victim's car, a white 2023 Chevrolet Onix Joy, which was found completely incinerated on a rural road near Arroyo Morotí.

During previous searches, police seized more than 17 million guaranis in cash, a .22 caliber rifle, cell phones, motorcycles, and clothing, considered relevant to the investigation.

Authorities do not rule out further arrests and continue investigations jointly with the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Homicide Department, Guairá Regional Investigations agents, personnel from the 29th Planchada Police Station, and members of the GEO tactical group.
