Three suspects arrested for robbing former senator in Asunción

The National Police arrested three men, including a Venezuelan, suspected of robbing former senator Armando Espínola in front of his home in the Herrera neighborhood of Asunción. The crime occurred days ago and raised concerns about safety in the capital.

The National Police detained three suspects, including a Venezuelan national and two Paraguayans, for the robbery of former Liberal senator Armando Espínola. The crime took place days ago in front of the victim's residence in the Herrera neighborhood of Asunción.

Preliminary information indicates that Espínola was approached by criminals as he arrived home. Under threat, the robbers took a Rolex watch and other valuables. The victim reported that the attackers acted in a coordinated manner and used a motorcycle.

The police investigation, based on security camera footage and intelligence work, led to the identification of the suspects. Search and seizure warrants were executed in different parts of the metropolitan area, resulting in the capture of the three men and the seizure of evidence considered important to the case.

Police sources indicate that one of the detainees allegedly carried out the robbery directly, while the other two provided logistical support and monitored the victim. Investigators have not ruled out that the group is linked to other similar crimes recently committed in Asunción and neighboring cities.

The case has reignited concerns about insecurity in the capital. Residents of the Herrera neighborhood reported an increase in robberies committed by motorcyclists, especially at night and during low-traffic hours.

The detainees are in custody and at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, which is expected to file charges in the coming days. Authorities continue working to recover the stolen items and identify any other individuals involved in the robbery of the former senator.
