During two inspections this Wednesday at the Friendship International Bridge customs post in Foz do Iguaçu, the Brazilian Federal Revenue seized 39.2 kilos of marijuana carried in vehicles with Paraguayan plates. Both drivers, both Paraguayan, were arrested.
The first stop took place at 5:30 a.m. With the help of a K9 sniffer dog, Federal Revenue officers inspected a pickup truck with Paraguayan plates. In the vehicle's hood, they found ten 500-gram packages of marijuana, totaling five kilos of the drug. The driver was alone and did not attempt to flee.
The second seizure happened at 8:40 a.m. Another vehicle with Paraguayan plates was stopped, and during the search officers located 61 packages of a substance resembling marijuana and eight packages of pressed marijuana, hidden in the front bumper and in a false bottom under the driver's seat. The total weight was 34.2 kilos. The driver, also Paraguayan, was accompanied by a passenger. The driver had recently been detained by the Federal Highway Police for drug trafficking.
The vehicles, the occupants, and the illicit goods were handed over to the Federal Police for the appropriate legal procedures.
