Paraguayan theater gains a new chapter with the premiere of "En Penumbras," a work by playwright Santiago Filártiga Lamar, which takes the stage at the Casa Argentina auditorium (Asunción) this Friday, May 22, at 9 p.m. The opening run includes performances on Saturday (23) at the same time and on Sunday (24) at 8 p.m.
Under the general direction of Carlos Arbués, the cast consists of Regina Bachero, Calolo Rodríguez, Dani González, Chela Villagra, and Karina Otazú. The plot follows two pairs of in-laws who gather for a long-delayed formal dinner. What begins under the sign of courtesy and social protocols unravels as resentments, ironies, and reproaches emerge, exposing class tensions and the mechanisms of discursive repression hidden behind good manners.
Filártiga Lamar constructs a sharp radiography of family ties and socioeconomic asymmetries, using situations of absurd realism. The play is presented as a stylistic and thematic sequel to "A la luz" (2019), which achieved 15 performances and over 1,000 spectators in the Paraguayan capital.
Executive and general production is by Elenita Aquino, who also serves as assistant director. The technical team includes Angie Pedrozo (production assistance), Santiago Schaerer (lighting design), and Samuel Paniagua (graphic identity). Reservations can be made by phone at 0991 166 694.
