A gang in Ciudad del Este has been kidnapping and robbing victims, predominantly Brazilian tourists, after luring them with fake profiles on the Grindr app, in a series of cases with the same modus operandi.

A 35-year-old Brazilian citizen was kidnapped and forced to transfer about 60 million guaranis (45,000 reais) after arranging a meeting via Grindr in the San Rafael neighborhood of Ciudad del Este. Seven armed men ambushed him, stole his iPhone 17 Pro Max, and held him hostage for hours to carry out Pix transfers. Police were unable to locate the exact site of the crime.
