Paraguay’s Chamber of Deputies, in its session of May 19, 2026, buried the possibility of intervention in seven municipalities, including Lima, Emboscada, Tomás Romero Pereira, Yby Yaú, Ñemby, Ybyrarobaná, and Juan León Mallorquín. The decision comes less than three weeks before the internal party elections of June 7, shielding mayors seeking reelection who face allegations of corruption, phantom public works, and embezzlement.

Ñemby Mayor Tomás Olmedo (ANR-FR) obtained another postponement of his preliminary hearing, which would decide whether he would stand trial for the alleged embezzlement of over Gs. 700 million.
