Brazil’s Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized 106.2 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a compartment built inside the fuel tank of a truck with Paraguayan license plates in the Brazilian state of Paraná. The 33-year-old driver was arrested.
The truck was stopped at around 6 p.m. on Thursday during a highway inspection. A sniffer dog indicated the tank area, and officers found packages of cocaine in a concealed structure inside the reservoir.
The driver’s nationality was not disclosed. He was taken, along with the seized drugs, to the Federal Police station in Guarapuava, where he remained at the authorities’ disposal.
The case highlights a transport method that makes detection during conventional inspections more difficult: modifying parts of a vehicle to create compartments for concealing drugs. The seizure alone, however, does not establish the shipment’s origin, its intended destination or whether other people took part in the operation.
