Paraguay's Public Prosecutor's Office reported this Sunday (18) that it was not possible to confirm the allegation of sexual abuse against the 7-year-old boy found dead alongside his mother, Mónica Idalia González, 26, in a boarding house in Lambaré, Central Department. The case is being investigated as a filicide followed by suicide.
According to a note left by the woman at the scene, she allegedly took her own life and that of her son because the boy had been sexually abused by his biological father when he was 3 and 4 years old. The complaint was filed on December 9, 2024, with prosecutor Laura Romero, who at the time was substituting for prosecutor Luis Muniagurria.
The prosecutor's office clarified that, immediately after the complaint, the child was taken to the forensic clinic, where physical violence was ruled out. The boy also received psychological support at the Victim Care Center, but during the first interview, he hesitantly mentioned another name without being able to specify dates or facts.
The mother, in turn, displayed contradictory behavior, even pointing to the police officer who responded to the incident as the alleged aggressor. Therefore, a psychological evaluation was requested for her. The day after the complaint, the woman attempted to throw herself in front of a vehicle with her son and later threatened to jump from a roof, leading the prosecutor's office to alert the Codeni of Lambaré. The child was rescued and handed over to a maternal aunt.
The Childhood Defense Office of Lambaré was notified for follow-up. The prosecutor's office attempted to schedule new psychological interviews with the boy, but he did not attend the scheduled sessions. The aunt told the Public Prosecutor's Office that the child never reported to her having suffered abuse or any other type of violence.
Given the lack of objective evidence — medical exam without signs of sexual violence, failure to attend evaluations, and the aunt's testimony — the prosecutor's office concluded that there are insufficient indications to formally charge anyone.
