Mother kills 7-year-old son and commits suicide after uninvestigated sexual abuse report in Lambaré

A 26-year-old woman suffocated her 7-year-old son and hanged herself in a tenement in the Santa Luísa neighborhood of Lambaré. In a letter on Instagram, she stated that the report of sexual abuse against the child's biological father, filed in 2024, was never thoroughly investigated. The Public Prosecutor's Office reported that medical exams ruled out physical violence, but the director of Forensic Medicine, Pablo Lemir, highlighted that not all sexual abuse leaves physical marks.

In the early hours of Monday (18), a tragedy shook the Santa Luísa neighborhood in Lambaré. A 26-year-old woman suffocated her 7-year-old son with a pillow and then hanged herself with a rope. In a letter published on her Instagram account, she stated that she made the decision because she believed that the report of sexual abuse against the child's biological father, filed in 2024, was never properly investigated.

“My case was never investigated. They never did anything. Today my heart can no longer bear so much pain, so much suffering, and seeing my son suffer, who doesn't go a day without remembering everything that disgusting person did,” wrote the mother. “I hope that after my death I receive justice, but the dead have no justice in Paraguay,” she added.

The case was under the responsibility of prosecutor Amelia Hortencia Bernal Jara, from Unit 4 of the Lambaré Prosecutor's Office. In an official statement, the Public Prosecutor's Office reported that the complaint was received on December 9, 2024, with the intervention of prosecutor Laura Romero, who that week was substituting for prosecutor Luis Muniagurria. The child was taken to the Forensic Clinic, where exams ruled out physical violence. The investigation continued.

According to the statement, the boy was seen at the Victim Care Center, where he received psychological support. In an interview, the child hesitantly mentioned another name, without being able to specify dates or facts. The mother, described as distressed and with contradictory behavior, even pointed to a police officer as a possible aggressor, which led to a request for a psychological evaluation for her.

The day after the report, December 10, 2024, the woman allegedly tried to throw herself in front of a vehicle with her son and later climbed onto a roof, threatening to jump. A neighbor reported the fact to the Prosecutor's Office, which contacted the director of Codeni de Lambaré. The child was rescued and handed over to an aunt. The Childhood Defender's Office of Lambaré was informed for follow-up.

The prosecutor's office stated that it tried to schedule psychological evaluations for the boy, but he did not attend the scheduled interviews. The aunt declared that the child had not reported abuse or violence. “Thus, as the existence of the crime was not confirmed, the medical exam ruled out physical injuries and signs of sexual violence, and there was a lack of attendance at interviews, there were no objective elements for an accusation,” the statement concludes.

The director of Forensic Medicine of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Pablo Lemir, confirmed that autopsies of the bodies were not requested, and it was up to prosecutor Nora Lisandra Cubilla Alvarenga to do so. The police reported that the bodies were handed over to the families. Lemir warned: “The fact of not finding physical injuries of sexual abuse in a child does not imply the absence of the fact. Not all sexual abuse in minors leaves physical signs; what always remain are psychic signs.”
